With increasing usage of DOACs for our patients, we continue to run into financial concerns for our patients and their individual insurance plans. On discharge day, I would have to make calls to the pharmacy to have them run test claims on these DOACs to get their cost information. Once I receive the costs, I would then have to present that info to the patient. If we could implement a process similar to the “med rec” request to the PharmD (either in a form of a EPIC order or an Inbox message), I think it would make our d/c process more efficient.
