EPIC order or Pharm inbox communication to have PharmD run costs of DOAC for patient

With increasing usage of DOACs for our patients, we continue to run into financial concerns for our patients and their individual insurance plans. On discharge day, I would have to make calls to the pharmacy to have them run test claims on these DOACs to get their cost information. Once I receive the costs, I would then have to present that info to the patient. If we could implement a process similar to the “med rec” request to the PharmD (either in a form of a EPIC order or an Inbox message), I think it would make our d/c process more efficient.

I will present this idea to the Executive Committee on 3/20/2019.
